How Fragile Items are Kept Safe during Transport

If you are working with a freight forwarder to transport fragile items, you need to discuss with them beforehand how they are handling the packing and the transport to ensure that customers receive the items in good condition. There are many methods that freight forwarders use to ensure fragile items are protected.

A reliable and reputed courier service will ensure that fragile freight is secured during the transport and delivered to the customer safely. The goods transported by a freight provider will vary in shape and size. A freight management company will decide the safest way to carry these items from one place to another. The methods need to be cost-effective as well. And if the manufacturing company has an environmentally conscious ethos, they need to consider the sustainability of the packing materials used and how the carbon footprint can be reduced further. A common way of securing fragile items is wrapping them in bubble wrap. This can be used to secure items like ceramic, glass, electronic gadgets etc. You need to have at least two layers of bubble wrap to ensure that the item is secured. There should also be cardboard spacers used to ensure that the item doesn’t move around too much during transit. This will keep them in a fixed position. You can secure the bubble wrap with packaging tape.

The item should be packed in a box that has the right size so that it doesn’t move around inside much. In addition to improving safety, this will reduce the cost of shipping. With larger sized boxes, you will need to spend more on the load. You will need to work closely with the freight forwarder when selecting the right box. But even when you carry out the above steps properly, the people handling the box should be aware there is something fragile inside. This is where proper labelling comes in. You need to have large visible stickers and labels that will let anyone that handles it know about the nature of the contents. The label should say “Fragile” or “Handle with care”. For certain items, you can indicate which side should be kept facing upwards.

Check the weight of the contents to get an idea of the packing method that is best suited for it. If it’s a heavier item, then you will need more padding and larger boxes. Lighter loads will need to be secured tightly to ensure they don’t move around. You can also prevent the items from moving around too much by adding packing peanuts. These work as padding to the item. Packing peanuts are very affordable and it will not increase the cost of your shipping by a large margin. You can use a layer of polystyrene inside and outside the packaging to provide padding. Once you have packed your items properly, you need to make sure they are transported safely. Some fragile items are not suited for sea freight as there can be extreme weather conditions that can affect the condition of the item. So in that case, air freight or road transport will be preferred.
